Cameron Pass provides a unique Colorado backcountry skiing experience. Remote and undeveloped, “Cam Pass” also receives a generous amount of snow each winter; good skiing often extends into May. Colorado State Hwy.14, a well-maintained all-weather road over the pass, provides access from east and west. Although Cameron Pass does not cross the Continental Divide, it is the only year-round highway north of Berthoud Pass accessing the western slope. Just 65 miles from Fort Collins and 90 miles from Steamboat Springs, Cameron Pass is a straightforward day trip from many areas in Colorado. During the winter, facilities such as lodging, gas stations, and restaurants are scarce. Cell service on Cameron Pass is spotty to non-existent: only on higher ridges with good line of sight is cell service possible. The Moose Visitor Center, located 9 miles west of Cameron Pass, remains open year-round, providing restrooms and visitor services. At the time of publication, no wifi or cell service exists at this location. Administratively, the area is managed by Arapaho & Roosevelt National Forest east of Cameron Pass and by Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW) on the west side of the pass. Parking and access on the west side of the pass require a CPW Parks Permit. Currently, the National Forest does not require a daily use fee for the eastern side. Mount Hood has captivated the imaginations of many in the Pacific Northwest for centuries. Named for a British admiral in the late 1700s, its native name has been lost to history. Lewis and Clark labeled Hood “stupendous” as they returned east on their epic journey, and that assessment rings true today. The first recorded ascent of Mt. Hood occurred in the 1850s, and the history of skiing on the mountain started with people on long wooden skis using them for transportation. The first recorded ski descent of the south side occurred in the 1920s, and skiing and mountaineering on Hood have been intertwined ever since. With the opening of Timberline Lodge in 1937, skiing on the mountain exploded in popularity. Mount Hood became renowned for backcountry skiing when Sylvain Saudan descended Newton-Clark Headwall on the east side of the mountain in 1971, a descent that heralded the arrival of “extreme skiing” in America. Backcountry skiing and riding has always been relatively popular on the mountain, as a stable snowpack and long season entice locals and tourists alike. As backcountry use has grown quickly in the past few years, Mount Hood remains a sought after destination for those looking for ski mountaineering descents, glaciers and hopefully - powder.

For almost 8,000 years native people have lived around the Olympic Mountains. The Duwamish of the Salish sea call them ‘Sun-a-do’, and the ancestors of the Klallam have been living, hunting and gathering in the high mountains since time immemorial.The Spanish sailed along the coast in 1774 and named the highest peak, Cerro Nevado de Santa Rosalia. In 1788, the British Explorer Roger Meares renamed the highest peak, Mt Olympus because it looked like the ‘abode of the gods.’ and just like that the Olympic Mountains became part of the European map.The 1890s saw climbers begin ascending the summits of Mt. Olympus, with the main summit finally being climbed in 1907. Deer Park became Washington’s premier ski area in the mid 1930s. The Hurricane Ridge road was built in the early 50s and the ski area moved from Deer Park, establishing a new winter recreation center for the Olympic National Park. Ski touring began along the roads of Deer Park and Hurricane Ridge and shifted to the Bailey Range and the higher peaks in the 1990s.

“The Park,” as locals know it, is home to some of the most diverse, accessible ski terrain on the Colorado Front Range. The Continental Divide creates a North-South backbone through the Park, and the glacier-carved east side offers long valleys of leeward terrain all the way to timberline. The Park holds the highest concentration of ski mountaineering terrain in the Front Range. Steep, dramatic scenery awaits as soon as you break into the alpine. Here, you will find options from entry-level to expert, from couloirs to alpine bowls. When the challenging midwinter weather or shallow early-season snowpack keeps you below the Continental Divide, fear not. Near- and below-timberline glades and gullies offer adventures in every valley, limited only by your curiosity for exploration. If you’re up for a more social affair, take a lap or two at Hidden Valley, a now-defunct ski area (1955–1991) which has become a gathering spot for everyone from new visitors and families to locals and skimo trainers. The spring months bring a deeper snowpack, more favorable weather, and the opening of Trail Ridge Road, which happens on Memorial Day Weekend in typical snow years. Topping out at over 12,000’, this is the highest paved road in Colorado and gives spring and early summer skiers great access to high alpine terrain. Mount Cumulus, Flattop Mountain, Hallett Peak, Longs Peak, McHenrys Peak, and many others offer classic high summit ski descents for a range of ability levels. April and May are often prime months for these objectives; you can still ski from the parking lot and often have the choice between cold snow or corn. In this first edition, we’ve compiled a list of the classic tours and descents the Park is known for, and included a few lesser-known objectives to spark the veterans’ curiosity. Routes and descriptions have been ground-truthed, vetted for accuracy, and supported by photography in order to provide a reliable planning and decision-making tool for your adventures. Enjoy!

Home to multiple ski areas, extreme skiers and sledders, ski and mountain guides, and an incredibly rich mining history, the sleepy town of Silverton is a fantastic place to visit. It speaks for itself when it comes to remote and rugged mountain towns of the west. Many mountain ranges do not have a year round maintained road passing through them. In 1897, John Stevens found the passage for the Great Northern Railroad across a 4,000’ pass in the Cascades. Since then, Stevens Pass place in history is thick with decades of travel, avalanches, ski areas, and so much more. Stevens Pass is one of the essential gateways to the extraordinary backcountry possibilities that exist between I-90, US Highway 97, and US Highway 2.
Over 300 tours, accessible via ski areas, roadside pullouts, and long snowmobile approaches make this region’s diverse opportunities seem infinite. The East Side also provides a drier, colder snowpack—bringing blower pow (and persistent slabs) to the Cascades.

The Pisquouse (Yakama name: Winátshapam), or Wenatchi, lived in the area that spans present-day Leavenworth to Wenatchee. Wenatchee is a Sahaptian word for “river water which comes from canyons” or “robe of the rainbow.” The first inhabitants of the Kittitas Valley were the Psch-wan-wap-pams (stony ground people), also known as the Kittitas, Si’apkat, or Upper Yakama. They lived along the upper Yakima River (today called Cle Elum), which was a traditional gathering place for tribes east of the Cascades.

Backcountry touring is a relatively new activity in New Mexico. The early days of the pandemic left many avid skiers and riders without a functioning ski area. For the cost of a lift ticket, backcountry travelers could buy a new pair of skins and open up the world outside the ski area boundaries.
I never saw tracks far beyond the ski area boundaries in the 80s; it wasn’t until the early 2000s that I started to see occasional tracks. Today, it’s rare that I don’t see someone else out having fun in the sidecountry—but the wilderness experience is still very much available to those willing to explore.
New Mexico offers many adventures in areas less traveled. The snow can be as deep as anywhere in the Rocky Mountains, and the spring skiing can make for quick descents. While the New Mexico snowpack shares commonalities to the snowpack at large within the Rocky Mountains, the lower latitude plus high elevation combine to form a special snowpack different from the surrounding states. The changing snowpack may be very different from the typical continental snowpack folks have come to expect in the San Juan or Elk Mountain ranges just to the north in Colorado.
I am fortunate to have had the opportunity to spend the majority of my youth, and to have made a successful guiding career, in these mountains. I share the common thread of the experience with those who have come before and those yet to make the discoveries.

Boat Rock is a boulder field located just west of Atlanta. It is a huge deposit of sharp granite boulders of varying size and difficulty, but with a great variety for all level of climbers. The Southeastern Climbing Coalition purchased a 7.8 acre tract of Boat Rock, and in 2005 an additional 4.5 acres was donated to be open to climbers, and protected from development. The area is bordered by housing development and private property. There are some climbs that are listed in other guides that have been omitted from this guide because of their location on private property.

This guide contains pictures and route descriptions for areas of Boat Rock park, including Waves in Motion, Paint Can, Beam Me Up, Half Pipe, Spiderman, and Yellow Boulder. Liming is China’s premier destination for sandstone climbing and while it has gained notoriety with the trad routes, the most recent wave of development has focused on sport climbing. With the closest climbing to Denver, Clear Creek Canyon has become immensely popular with the after work crowd and those seeking a quick vertical fix close to town. CCC was overlooked for years while attention was focused on the more longstanding traditional areas of Eldorado and Boulder Canyons. All that changed when sport climbing came on the scene around 1990 and bolting restrictions were invoked in many of the Boulder areas. CCC now hosts a great selection of over 800 routes for all abilities and the roadside convenience is hard to beat.

The vast majority of the crags are found within a couple of hundred yards of the road, a feature that adds to convenience, but detracts from the ambiance. One of the best things that CCC has going for it is overhanging stone, something not found as much in the other metro Denver areas. The Wall of Justice, Wall of the 90s, River Wall, New River Wall, and other crags provide the opportunity to get on some nice steep stone and get strong. The vast majority of the climbs are bolted, primarily due to the lack of solid consistent cracks. This fact further reinforces the popularity of these highly accessible crags.

A couple of logistical issues are worth pointing out. Many of the parking areas are limited, so it's a good idea to carpool from Golden during busy weekends. It's also a good idea to obey the no parking signs as the no parking rules are enforced and one unlucky climber found his car completely crushed by rockfall one day. The lower 3/4 of the canyon is now owned by Jefferson County Open Space and there are regulations applicable to the crags in those areas. Also, construction has begun on portions of a trail that is slated to ultimately link Denver International Airport with Glenwood Springs, so some crags may be closed while the trail is being built. Some of the crags are across the creek and have tyroleans maintained by climbers. Other crags aren't accessible without wading, usually impossible until the creek recedes in late summer. One very important thing to remember in CCC is that the rock isn't the best, some holds break and there may be good sized blocks that will come off. Don't automatically assume that everything is solid. New routes are still going in so there will be updates to this guide in the future.

Cody is already known as one of the best ice climbing venues in the country and for the sandstone boulderer the density and quantity of problems is unparalleled in Wyoming. Denny Cove rock climbing is located 30 minutes outside of Chattanooga, just north of the small town of Jasper, between the popular climbing at Foster Falls and Castle Rock.
Denny Cove already offers 154 routes (mostly sport), with potential for many more on nearly three miles of cliff line. The unique multi-colored sandstone offers routes of all grades and ability levels and boasts a wide variety of terrain—from long overhanging walls to massive roofs, slabs, cracks, and corners.

Overlooked or ignored for many years, Devil's Head rock climbing has become one of Colorado's premier sport climbing destinations. Over 100 crags, spires and walls contain some of the best granite in the western U.S., and there are now over 1000 climbs at Devil's Head and Tod is updating this guidebook with new routes regularly.

Devil's Head features great views and a feeling of remoteness, despite being only an hour from downtown Denver. Most crags require some walking to access, but the hikes are generally over moderate terrain and elevation gains are reasonable. It's easy to find sun or shade as needed, depending on the daily temperatures. Each crag has its own unique character and a wide variety of types of climbing are found at the always expanding collection of crags at Devil's Head.

Both free and pay camping are available in the vicinity and some sites even feature walk from camp climbing access. Pay camping exists at the main trailhead in a small campground that has about 15 sites. Those often fill up on weekends, so early weekend arrival is advised. Free dispersed camping is allowed along Rampart Range Road and in Jackson Creek valley. The best sites are located past the turnoff to the main trailhead and beyond Mile Marker 10.

El Potrero Chico is the world's largest big wall sport climbing destination and is home to over 600+ sport routes. Located on the outskirts of Hidalgo Nuevo Leon, Mexico, a quaint little town that has been welcoming to the climbing community since the late 80's and early 90's. The sharp contrast between the low of the valley where the town sits and the very tall towering walls of EPC creates a very beautiful scenic view. These limestone walls have been developed with some amazingly large routes that are bolted all the way to the top. A great place for the beginner sport climber to get into the awesome world of multi-pitch climbing. Although many of the big multi-pitch climbs are considered moderates ranging from 5.10a to 5.10d, there are several that reach into the 5.11 and 5.12 range and even a couple in the 5.13 range. So there is plenty of amazing big walls for everyone.

That being said, the single-pitch climbing in El Potrero Chico is top notch. There are amazing routes of all grades from 5.7 to 5.13. So when you need a rest from scaling the massive walls, enjoy some of the cragging that is available in some of the other single pitch crags. Outrage wall, The Surf Bowl and Estrellas Canyon are well known for some amazing single pitch climbing.

The style of rock here is mostly slab/vertical face with a couple of crags that hold some beautiful overhanging steep climbing. The Lower Sense of Religion (better known as Moto Wall) and The Virgin Canyon have some of the best single pitch face climbs in the area. If you are looking for something different though, The Surf Bowl and Outrage Wall will be your best friend if you want to get on some awesome overhanging tufas while you are visiting. The weather down here is great during the winter and prime sending temps last for months. During the summer the sun situation changes for most of the crags and the hot Mexican sun pelts the walls with wicked hot rays. Find the shade!! With the climbing areas on mostly north or south facing walls you can always find shade when it's hot outside.

A small part of the local community has stepped up to provide all the amenities necessary for an amazing climbing trip. When you are in need of a serious rest day there is plenty to enjoy at the campgrounds and around town. Plenty of good places to eat, a hot springs location about an hour's drive from Hidalgo, the city of Monterrey if you are looking for some excitement and El Buho Cafe if you are looking for a great place to lounge, relax and sip some amazing coffee. Take the time to walk around town and check out the local community.

The towering limestone walls reach towards the skies while the mariachi music blares through the canyon with locals and climbers alike taking in the beauty of the climbing. Don't be surprised when the locals come up and try to chat with you or even have a beer with you at the crag. They love seeing the "crazy" climbers up on the rock enjoying the beautiful place they live in. Before long you'll be dancing to the mariachi music with whatever strength you have left from the amazing climbing here.

Just outside Seattle at Exit 32 along Interstate 90 lies Little Si, the little sibling to Mt. Si next door. For the Rock Climber, however, Foster Falls rock climbing is the crown jewel of the South Cumberland State Park - offering almost 200 high quality sport climbs on superb Southern Sandstone. The long cliff sits in a southeasterly orientation and serves as a year-round climbing destination. In warm weather months, walls in the interior of the drainage (closer to the falls) remain shaded by towering hemlocks and broad-leafed magnolias that offer a break from the summer sun. In colder months, the south facing walls further out from the falls offer tall and exposed routes that make for great winter outings. The cliff averages sixty feet in height - with many routes that are taller, and shorter. The climbing ranges from jug laden slab climbs to quadruple stacked tiered bunkers. Because of this, Foster Falls possesses the greatest variety of sport climbing found in the Chattanooga area with new routes popping up all of the time. For this reason, it is among the most popular cliffs in the region. This initial release contains 174 climbs and will be updated when new routes go up.

Kotečnik is Slovenia's largest climbing area with 300+ single and multi-pitch climbs. Twenty minutes from downtown Salt Lake City lies the largest concentration of rock climbs in Utah. The true gem of Wasatch rock climbing. Little Cottonwood Canyon Rock Climbing!

Little Cottonwood Canyon is located within the Wasatch-Cache National Forest along the eastern border of the Salt Lake Valley, where the Rocky Mountains meet the Great Basin, roughly twenty miles southeast of Salt Lake City, Utah.

The canyon is a popular sightseeing destination and is a glacial trough carved by an alpine glacier during the last ice age, approximately 15,000 to 25,000 years ago. Albion Basin is famous for wildflowers and is one of the most photographed areas in northern Utah. Rare and endemic plant species are found in the area. Mountain goats inhabit the surrounding mountains.

Recreational activities in Little Cottonwood Canyon include hiking, camping, fishing, mountain biking, rock climbing, skiing, snowboarding, and backcountry use. There are two resorts in the canyon, Alta and Snowbird, providing both summer and winter recreational opportunities. The Utah Native Plant Society often conducts wildflower walks at Albion Basin and in other locations in the canyon. The paved portion of the road is approximately 8.3 miles from the base of the canyon to the top with an average grade of 9.2%, making it a popular road cycling challenge.

The lower third of the canyon is strewn with quartz monzonite outcroppings, mostly consisting of smooth steep faces. Local climbers informally refer to the rock as granite, which is a close relative.

Approaches involve parking along the road and hiking up through scrub oak, talus fields and large boulders.

Face climbing is the predominant technique, typically using a mixture of pre-placed bolts and cracks for protection, but there are many notable pure crack climbs as well. Most routes are 200-600 feet long, but routes of over 2,000 feet in length exist.

There is a long history of local community groups climbing in the canyon. Some notable groups through the years include: The Wasatch Mountain Club, The Alpenbock Club, The Steinfell Climbing Club and University of Utah climbing classes
The historical representation communicated herein endeavors to be an accurate picture of what happened in the past without sentimentality. This style of presentation necessarily risks hurting the feelings of those in the present. It also focus on facts and steer firmly away from assumptions, conjecture or opinion… which is always biased. You may find this approach to be of a decidedly old-fashioned style that lacks the snarkiness more common in modern works.

Consider, as you climb, that the rock was not nearly so clean of vegetation, flakes, dirt or massive loose blocks. Many of the earliest ascents were done without the aid of topropes, power drills, spring-loaded cams, sticky rubber shoes or harnesses. And ropes and bolts were not infailable.

Some of the most tame approach trails we saunter up in a few minutes today used to be far more time-consuming and energy-draining just a few decades ago. Consider, also, that guidebooks were far less informative or did not exist at all.

One of the worst errors of the present - not just ours, but any present - is its tendency to condescend toward the past, which is much easier to do when one does not seek to grasp the nature of its challenges as they presented themselves at the time.

This small book is, in part, an effort to counteract that condescension and remind us of how remarkable were the achievements of those who came before us. May it lead you to reconsider what is routinely called “progress” and recognize that humility is more a byproduct of conscious living than a whole-cloth creation.

This work is offered as a contribution to the making of Wasatch Climbers. As such, it is a loving endeavor as well as a scholarly one, without losing sight of what there is to celebrate and cherish in your achievement.

Less than 1.5 hrs from Marrakech lies a quiet and unique climbing paradise called Ain Belmusk. With some of the best rock in the Beaver Valley, Devil’s Glen offers a wide range of exceptional sport and trad climbing opportunities. With its spectacular views of Georgian Bay and immaculate limestone walls, Lion’s Head is truly the crown jewel of the Southern Ontario climbing scene. This massive cliff is home to many of the best and hardest sport routes in the province. Thanks to its northern location and proximity to Georgian Bay, climbing at Lion’s Head is viable even in the peak summer heat. While sport climbing is the main draw at this cliff, the area also has a surprising number of high-quality traditional climbs. As one of Ontario's older crags, Metcalfe Rock has an excellent assortment of trad and sport climbs. Recently, the cliff has seen a flurry of new activity as climbers have re-bolted old mixed-gear lines into modern sport routes. At the same, a few dedicated climbers have been busy establishing an impressive number of new moderate sport routes. The combination of new and updated climbs have transformed Metcalfe Rock into the perfect crag for any beginner-to-intermediate sport or trad climber.

Located just 45 minutes from Toronto, Mount Nemo is the premier crag in the Milton region. The over-2km long cliff has more than 350 routes ranging from easy 5.fun trad adventures to challenging 5.12 sport classics. And thanks to the recent re-equipping of Nemo's many older routes, the cliff now also offers a significant number of moderate sport climbs. The crag's northern aspect ensures cool conditions making this an ideal climbing area during warmer weather.

With its impeccable white walls and dramatic position overlooking the Beaver Valley, Old Baldy is one of Ontario's top sport climbing areas. The sun-drenched nature of the majority of the cliff combined with the relatively open base ensures that Old Baldy is great option both early and late in the season. In warmer weather, the Black Forest area offers some much-appreciated relief from the sun's scorching rays. While sport climbing is the crag's main draw, there are some notable trad climbing opportunities scattered across the cliff. Toss in a short and relatively easy approach, and becomes apparent why Old Baldy is such a popular cliff.

Home to Rattlesnake Point, Bottle Glass Crag and Buffalo Crag, this is by far the best and most accessible area for any new climber looking for their first outdoor climbing experience. All three crags are approached from the top, which greatly simplifies setting up top-ropes, and the easy access to the base (Rattlesnake Point has a metal staircase) eliminates the need for rappelling and other more advanced climbing skills. These are primarily south facing cliffs with a relatively open base, so they dry quickly after rain and are ideal for early season climbing.

With approximately 150 routes ranging from 5.6 to 5.13, The Swamp is one of Ontario's most popular climbing areas. While many climbers tend to associate the crag with sport climbing, the cliff also has a number of exceptional moderate traditional climbs. As a relatively new area, the crag has been developed to modern standards with stainless hardware, appropriately spaced bolts and proper anchors on almost every route. The Swamp's southern exposure makes this a great cliff during cooler spring and fall conditions.

The Ozone cliff band consists of three different cliffs, all comprised of the same band of quality rock, ranging from 40' tall to over 120' tall, and all three cliffs are somewhat connected by a rough trail system. Ozone Cliff is certainly the most popular cliff of the three cliffs, and quite possibly the most popular cliff in the Portland area. While they are comprised of the same rock, Dropzone/Farside and Stratosphere are less popular, Dropzone/Farside due to being mostly traditionally protected lines, and Stratosphere simply because it is newer and a little further from the parking.
When sampling the excellent climbing here, it is recommended to have at least some trad gear with you, as many of the routes need one or more pieces of gear to safely ascend them.

Hidden within the majestic valleys of the Sierra Madre Oriental, just outside the sprawling city of Monterrey, lies the wonderland that is Parque La Huasteca.

Gigantic spines of limestone cut the jagged landscape like knifes to the heavens and cascading canyons bestow hypnotizing vistas that reach as far as the eye can see. For decades, the park remained elusive to the outside world, an almost mythical place that few ventured into but the enigmatic Huichol people, whose annual pilgrimage to the pay tribute to Abuelo Fuego (Grandfather Fire) has been a tradition for millennia.

In recent years, the park has witnessed an awakening. The tales of it's beauty have travelled far and wide, carried by images of it's breathtaking scenery and signature views of Pico Independencia. Combined with it's incredible selection of climbing routes ranging in grades from 5.7 to 5.14+, and boulders from V0 - V11 as well as numerous big walls, the park continues to attract visitors from across the globe and as far as the U.K., Germany and Sweden.

Possessing a plethora of activities including sport climbing, bouldering, big walling, running, mountaineering, hiking, cycling, highlining, base jumping and camping, there is something to quiche the thirst of even the most ambitious adventurer!

Historically known for great hiking and views of the Tennessee River, Pot Point Bouldering also offers hundreds of great problems. Recent discovery of the area's potential has opened another option for those looking for something new. Solid sandstone and a great variety of grades make this area a place for everyone. Development of the area was largely done by Matthew Gant and others and while their efforts brought about a lot of problems, the area still has tons of potential. This guidebook contains 45 of the best problems and serves to help those who want to avoid getting lost and sample the areas sweetest lines for just a couple bucks.

Powerlinez rock climbing opened for climbing in May of 2013 thanks to the efforts of the Torne Valley Climbers' Coalition. The Powerlinez is located on the SE side of Torne Mountain in the Southern portion of Harriman State Park in New York. This guidebook is the second guide to come out for the area and accounts for the explosion of development that happened soon after the area opened for climbing.

Even though it is located in a state park, there is no fee associated with climbing at the Powerlinez. You do need to fill out a waiver, however. Please be sure you fill out a yearly waiver that is available at The Gravity Vault Indoor Rock Gyms (Upper Saddle River or Chatham) or Rock and Snow .

Since the area is still under development, be sure to always check for updates here on rakkup. The rock at the Powerlinez is characterized as sharp and gritty gneiss. Many of the holds can be sharp as razors, so be sure to tape up for any crack climbs. The top outs are notoriously heart-pounding and heady. Always packed with slopers that just don't feel confident, topping out is a head game to overcome at the Powerlinez. Omicron Crack (V3) or Shots Fired (5.12) are classic examples.

Much of the area's less popular walls are either short rope walls or high-ball boulder problems. Pick your poison.

In the mean time, get your waiver signed, be safe and have fun! Let's take advantage of this awesome area close to home and preserve the area as it's meant to be!

Voici un guide complet de l'escalade qu'on trouve dans le Parc régional du Poisson Blanc. Il y a longtemps que la grimpe se pratique sur le territoire, mais en 2016, suite à la demande des gestionnaires du Parc, ceux-ci ont établi une collaboration avec la FQME et à l'aide de plusieurs bénévoles ont procédé au développement de l'escalade sur les falaises du réservoir. Le résultat est ce qui se retrouve dans ce guide: cinq secteurs avec plus de 130 voies.
L'approche à l'escalade se fait uniquement par bateau et peut nécessiter jusqu'à 4 heures en canot pour se rendre. Il est donc commun de faire du canot-camping sur les îles aux sites désignés. Climbing guide for part of the Matawinie area of Lanaudière situated just north of the village of Sainte-Émélie-de-l’Énergie in Quebec. For now it contains the Proximus and Sérénité cliffs with climbs ranging from 5.4 to 5.13. These are two unique and different climbing areas. Proximus is your typical roadside crag, with little to no approach, a good distribution of difficulty, and a few harder projects to enjoy. Sérénité as the name implies is simply magical. Although climbing here is great, it's the setting that makes the place. Situated in complete nature, the area has a canyon like feel to it. Climbs are less for the novice and will provide a good challenge for most climbers.
There is a potential for lots of other sectors in the area. These will be added when ready.

Le guide d’escalade de Sainte-Émélie-de-l’Énergie couvre l’escalade située dans la section du Parc Régional de la Matawinie qui se trouve au nord du village de Sainte-Émélie-de-l’Énergie. En ce moment, il contient la Paroi Proximus et la Paroi Sérénité. On y retrouve environ 50 voies de 5.4 à 5.13. Ces falaises sont aussi uniques qu’elles sont très différentes. Proximus c’est une falaise sans marche d’approche! On y retrouve des voies pus faciles et modérés avec des projets plus durs! Sérénité comme le nom dit est simplement un lieu enchanteur. Malgré le fait indéniable que l’escalade y est superbe, c’est l’emplacement qui y donne son charme. La paroi est située en pleine nature, dans une vallée étroite avec un ruisseau qui fait juste assez de bruit, même les non grimpeurs vont trouver le lieu paisible. Les voies sont d’une difficulté plus grande et elles vont offrir un défi aux grimpeurs de tous les niveaux.
La région possède un bon potentiel pour l’escalade et d’autres secteurs s’ajouteront au fur et à mesure que le développement avance.

Grand Morne

Le Grand Morne est la fameuse paroi mystérieuse de la Beauce. Communément appelé le Morne par les locaux, on peut considérer ce site comme le joyau de la région. L’escalade au Morne est unique. C'est une falaise du terroir vertical qu’on ne retrouve nulle part ailleurs. Le Morne c’est un rocher volcanique surprenant avec plein de formes et de prises cachées. Grimper au Morne, c'est accepter de se perdre dans une lecture d’itinéraires déroutantes. On y trouve des voies multi longueurs avec de l’ambiance et une gestuelle variée et complexe. En plus, il vous faudra savoir trouver les placements de protection dans cette escalade majoritairement traditionnelle. Vous voilà avec un grand cru d’escalade bien épicé qui demande temps et patience avant d’en apprécier toute la subtilité. Le Morne est une montagne à approcher avec respect et qui permet de développer le sens de l’itinéraire et de l’engagement. Le Mont Larose, situé au cœur des Laurentides, est un joyau de l'escalade du Québec. À Weir, comme il est appelé par les grimpeurs, on y retrouve un peu de tout, fissures, dièdres, voies sport, multi-longueurs, de l'artif, des devers, des toits et de la dalle. Vraiment de tout!
L'ambiance y est irréelle avec les antennes paraboliques de TATA Communication, et l'escalade y est superbe. Souvent considéré comme un lieu où l'escalade était difficile. Dans les dernières années, un grand projet, chapeauté par la FQME, de mise à niveau des voies et d'ouverture de nouvelles voies, a aidé à rendre l'escalade plus variée à travers les cotations. Tous y trouveront du plaisir.

Mount Larose is situated in the heart of the Laurentians. Weir, as it is called by local climbers is one of the premiere climbing areas of the province. It towers 100m over the alien landscape caused by the communication dishes of TATA Communications. The climbing here is quite phenomenal. You can find a bit of everything, slabs, faces, overhangs, roofs, sport climbs, crack climbs, test-pieces, hardcore climbs, multi pitches, beautiful dihedrals and aretes, it really has it all! When people think of climbing at Weir, the first reaction is that there is not much easy stuff. But in the last few years thanks to the FQME and a governmental program to update, rebolt, and open up new climbs, Weir now has an amazing variety of climbs in all grades. There is something for everyone to enjoy.

Mount Rigaud is a popular little crag about 45 min from Montreal and 80 min from Ottawa. Unfortunately, over the years access has been precarious and little to no formal information was available. Development however has been continuous and there are now close to 100 climbs. Most of these are short sport climbs, but there are a few nice trad lines. There has also always been some bouldering done on the obvious boulders along the trail. But in the past few years Nick Cowan has been exploring and has cleaned and climbed over 100 problems all over the mountain. With access now made easier, thanks to the implication of the ski center, the municipality and the FQME. It was judged time to get an accurate guide done. This guide, thanks to the help of the main developers, contains all of the correct information for all the climbs and boulders of Mount Rigaud.

Le Mont Rigaud est une destination très populaire pour l’escalade étant à 45 min de Montréal et 80 min d’Ottawa. Malheureusement, l’accès était précaire et peu d’informations étaient disponibles pour les voies. Malgré tout, le développement a continué et la falaise compte aujourd’hui près de 100 voies. Entrance Walls

The North-facing Entrance Walls wait less than 100 feet from the cool waters of the Potomac, with thirty routes (and counting) from 5.7 to 5.12+, most of them well-bolted sport lines. Downstream, just around the bend, are Copperhead Cove and Jake's Hill, with a dozen great lines from 5.8 to 5.11 and more going up all the time. Parking is limited, and this is also a popular fishing area, so please carpool and be considerate of other users.

Hidden behind a screen of trees and perched high on the ridge, the Guide Walls’ southern end was dubbed The Sunshine Wall for good reason; these stellar climbs bake in the sun for most of the day, through most of the year. The OG Corner offers a sampling of adventurous trad and the east-facing Ninja Walls offer sport climbing in morning sun and afternoon shade.

The Cape Peninsula is renowned for its world-famous landmark, one of the New 7 Wonders of Nature – Table Mountain and the Table Mountain chain. This rugged mountain chain creates an undulating ridge, which forms the backbone of the Peninsula, starting from the striking front of Table Mountain that overlooks the city, running through the beautiful and exposed Silvermine Reserve, over the cave-riddled Kalk Bay mountains and ending in the Cape of Good Hope Reserve at Cape Point – the very tip of the Peninsula.

Ten Sleep has been the site of some egregious route manufacturing recently and sporadically throughout the years. In order to provide each Rakkup user with the best and most accurate information, each route in the canyon will be included regardless of how it was developed. Routes developed on Wyoming Big Horn dolomite are expected to be comfortized as has been the practice around the state for decades, however holds may not be created from nothing and the use Sika (glue) is frowned upon. Routes developed outside this ethic will be included in the guide because there are climbers that will happily go and climb them and those that will want to avoid them. They will be described the same as normal routes, however they will lose a star in the quality rating system. Each route known to be a manufactured route will say so in its description and each Area with a route of this nature will have it included in its description.
